De School X The Queer Agenda

Chosen Family Holiday dinner

The For All Who Love Foundation proudly supports this dinner, bringing communities together.

About the project:

December is a month filled with celebrations traditionally spent with family. However, we recognize that not everyone within our community enjoys positive relationships with their biological families or has the opportunity to be with them. That’s why we are organizing a chosen family dinner for queer individuals, aiming to create an atmosphere that resembles a family gathering. Picture a homely vibe with delectable food for sharing, and a soundtrack of great music.

The dinner was incredibly successful. It was really beautiful and warm to see everyone together and that in these cold sometimes dark days we can still come together and share this love with each other. A total of over 100 people attended, of which we welcomed a group of queer refugees who were looked after by us throughout the evening. We started at Het Café of De School and continued the evening at Het Restaurant where a beautiful chosen family dinner was about to take place.

The amazing cooks Riam and Zainab created a fusion menu of Nigerian and Pakistani food. A shared dining experience of colourful tastes. Jackie and I raised a toast and singer Neema Nekesa brought a warm and lovely vibe with her voice. The people who came to Het Diner loved every moment of it. We ended the night back at Het Café with the tunes of DJ BASSOU MGOUNA.

Chosen Family. With her long tables filled with laughter and chats. This night felt like family.
